Last checked against the provider's pages on 12 Oct 2026.
What the work involves
Mercor describes itself as "organizing human intelligence to power the AI economy". It offers human evaluation, data and benchmark work to AI companies, including APEX-SWE, a benchmark of real-world software engineering tasks. Its network includes engineers alongside other professionals.
How applying works
Mercor's talent documentation covers these parts of the process:
- creating an account with passwordless email verification and setting up your profile and résumé;
- applying to specific listings;
- an AI interview, with guidance on preparation, resets and retakes;
- assessments used to qualify for opportunities;
- ID verification through Persona, and background checks for some projects;
- project onboarding, which can include time tracking with Insightful.
Location
Mercor's referral documentation states: when a job listing indicates a specific region, only candidates from that region are eligible; where no location is specified, the opportunity is presumed to be available to applicants in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom or the European Union. Mercor also publishes a list of countries where it can pay experts (via Stripe Connect, or Wise in some countries). Check the listing and these pages for your country.
Pay
Pay is set per listing and contract. Mercor's homepage advertises an average contracted rate, but individual rates vary by role and project, and work is not guaranteed.
Our independence
SoftwareSideHustles.com is not affiliated with or endorsed by Mercor. Mercor alone decides who is accepted and which projects are offered.
